The programme at a glance
The aim of the course program is to form a new group of professionals at the frontier between Engineering and Mathematics, able to apply advanced tools from applied mathematics to solve real-world challenges. Our highly flexible degree program will allow students to combine fundamental topics with a wide range of options from across engineering and mathematics. By the end of the course students will be exposed to pioneering research taking courses at the edge of science, technology and the applications of mathematics to real-world engineering problems. This is an ideal course program for scientists and mathematicians interested in learning Advanced Applied Mathematics and its applications to Engineering, and to become experts in Advanced Applied Mathematics.
Job opportunities
Engineering Mathematics graduates are superbly employable. They have many technical and transferable skills that enable them to play a leading and creative role as mathematicians and engineering professionals in industry, academic research, and elsewhere. Admission to the programme and prerequisites
Students entering the Master’s program in Mathematical Engineering are generally expected to have a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics or Engineering or Physics or closely related discipline. We will evaluate each application in its totality.
Applicants must submit English language proficiency by B2 level.
International students having Italian university qualification may be admitted to graduate degree courses under the same conditions as Italian students.

Additional study plan information
Some courses of the first semester of the first year are provided partially in a mixed mode ( MOOC on Federica Web Learning platform – https://www.federica.eu/).
At the beginning of the semester the students will be attend an online meeting where the instruction about the structure of courses and how to attend them will be provided.
The program is organized in two curricula, Curriculum A and Curriculum B, that students can opt from. Each curricula is made of a number of compulsory units complemented by options to be selected from the tables MATH* and ENG**.
Curriculum A is more oriented towards information engineering applications while Curriculum B more towards industrial and civil engineering applications.

Graduation thesis and exam
Every student will choose the subject of the thesis according to the suggestions of a supervisor.
The thesis consists of an academic essay which tests the candidate’s ability to explore and present original results and apply the knowledge and methodologies acquired during the program. All students must defend their master’s thesis. Such a defense consists of an oral presentation and answering questions from a Committee.
Orientation to incoming students
The Program organises various incoming orientation events jointly coordinated by the Department, the Polythechnical and Basic Science School (PBSS) and the University of Naples Federico II. The calendar can be found on the websites www.orientamento.unina.it and www.scuolapsb.unina.it. Every year the “Magistrali@SPSB” event is organised in which the program of the master’s degrees and professional outlets are presented. Youtube recordings of these events are always available. In the January-September period, the “Futuri Studenti” series of events is held online, whose access instructions can be found at the links above, and where it is possible to interact with teachers to receive specific information on the various courses and professional outlets. In the period March-July, “Open Days” are organized to visit facilities in person or attend specific events. The dates of these activities are provided during the “Porte Aperte” day. Tutoring and counseling
The Program organizes tutoring and counseling events, jointly with the Department’s courses of study and PBSS. These initiatives have the task of guiding and assisting students throughout their studies. The Course of Study has a well-established tutoring system aimed at providing support activities to students, collecting information from students on general or personal difficulties, disservices or collaborating with the Sinapsi centre. Career orientation and job placement
The Program organizes career orientation and job placement events, jointly with the Department, PBSS and the University of Naples Federico II. A list of opportunities for postgraduate internships and job offers is available at www.orientamento.unina.it. In addition, the PBSS runs a dynamic job placement platform at www.jobservice.unina.it. The platform is aimed at students and companies to facilitate the matching of supply and demand. In addition, the Program participates in the “Career Day@SPSB” event. During this event, students and graduates have the opportunity to learn more about the production domains of individual companies and the job profiles on offer.
