The mission of the Master in Marine Biology and Aquaculture is to train highly specialized marine biologists capable of planning and executing the management of the marine ecosystem, including MPAs, and the conservation strategies of living aquatic resources used by fishing and aquaculture, including biodiversity and ecosystem restoration and protection, with particular attention to the most vulnerable and threatened species and habitat. The Master includes teachers with teaching and professional skills from the most illustrious Italian and international marine biologists. Furthermore, it offers students privileged access to an exclusive network of international organizations that include the European Marine Biological Laboratories, the European Marine Biological Resource Centre, the Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience, Florida, the Marine Biological Laboratory USA and several foreign institutions.
The course prepares you for the profession of biologist, as regulated by Law 24 May 1967, n. 396 and by the Presidential Decree of 5 June 2001, n. 328, after passing the State Exam.
The Master’s degree curricula have been designed to provide a broad range of professional skills and competences. Our graduates will be at ease both in basic science laboratories and in jobs involving scientific and technological research and innovation for the sustainable management and exploitation of marine resources and aquaculture. The object of the professional activity will consist of holding positions of high responsibility to be carried out independently; based on the chosen curriculum it will cover:
Job opportunities include:
OR:
Access to the Degree Course is free, subject to verification of possession of the curricular and personal culture requirements as well as possession of the curricular requirements of three-year degrees in biology.
The student must demonstrate that they have acquired the knowledge required for the three-year degree of class L-13 (i.e. class 12 ex Ministerial Decree 509)
Students coming from other degree classes must have knowledge of the BIO/, CHIM/, FIS/, MAT/ SSDs. Possession of curricular requirements is determined by having acquired:
1) At least 18 credits in the sectors BIO/01-3, BIO/05, BIO/06, BIO/07.
2) At least 6 credits in the sectors BIO/04, BIO/09, BIO/10, BIO/11, BIO/18, BIO/19.
3) At least 6 credits in the CHIM/01-06 sectors; at least 12 credits in the sectors MAT/01-09, FIS/ 01-08;
The procedures for verifying personal preparation for access to the Master’s Degree Course in Biology are defined year by year by the CCD and published on the WEB site of the Department of Biology. The course is taught in English, so the student must have adequate knowledge of the English language (level B2).
The procedures for verifying personal preparation and the B2 level of English for access to the Master’s Degree Course are reported in the teaching regulations of the study course and published on the WEB site of the Department of Biology. All enrolled students, including those coming from Federico II, in possession of the curricular requirements and a three-year degree qualification with a score lower than 90/110, will be subjected to verification of the adequacy of their personal preparation. The secretariat will be responsible for sending the application via email to the Coordinator and via CC to the student student awaiting verification; for the secretariat to proceed with forwarding the application the student must have registered and paid university fees. The verification is based in the first instance on an analysis, by the Master’s Degree Study Plans and Admissions Commission appointed by the CCD, of the student’s previous curriculum and the scores achieved in the BIO sector exams and does not involve direct involvement of the students. If the Commission deems it appropriate, it will carry out an oral interview for evaluation purposes. The Commission reserves the right to exempt from the evaluation interview candidates in possession of particularly important qualifications or a certificate of passing of further supplementary exams taken.
The master degree is made of two curricula:
1) Marine Biology
2) Aquaculture and Management of marine resources

The CCD by a Commission following an explicit request by the student, will approve the credits CFU carried out in predetermined times, accompanied by appropriate certification, certifying the successful completion of a professional internship, issued by officially recognized public or private bodies.
The aforementioned CFUs can also be obtained through the choice of training activities
concerning instrumental techniques, also relating to the final exam.
For foreign students, the credits available for the internship are a maximum of 3, while a further 3 credits are dedicated to the acquisition of the Italian language.
Internship CFUs can also be obtained abroad as part of the Erasmus + project or equivalent.
The choice of curriculum must be made at the time of enrollment in the Master’s Degree.
The individual study plans, containing the request for approval of programs that differ from the basic program proposed, presented to the Student Secretariat by 31 December, will be screened, on the basis of congruity with the training objectives specified in the Regulation of the MD program, by a commission with instructing tasks set up by the CCD and approved, rejected or modified by the CCD by the deadline of January 31st.
For current students, the Study Plan provides for the training activities indicated by the Regulation for the various course years supplemented by the courses chosen independently.
The CCD determines, year by year, the forms of contract offered to students who ask to follow their studies longer than the legal ones.
The qualification is awarded following a final exam.
In order to sponsor the MD program, the Biology Department and the Polytechnic and Basic Sciences School every years plan a presentation of the MD program in presence, via TEAMS and streaming on YouTube. “Orientation Days” Physical and Chemical Oceanography

Both presentations include:
At the end, an open TEAMS, YouTUBE channels the students will be able to write questions in the chat or expose them receiving answers in real time.
The chat remains open and students can continue to ask their questions to the Coordinator.

The Orientation and Placement Commission of the Polytechnic School and Basic Sciences is constitutes by representatives of each Departments of the School
The Commission task is coordinating the implementation of job demand-supply matching initiatives and the paths for the acquisition by students of transversal tools and skills for entry into the job world.
The School has an online platform (www.jobservice.unina.it) dedicated to meeting job supply and demand.
The platform allows registered employers to publish offers for job positions and traineeships, to receive applications and to carry out pre-screening evaluation on the basis of the main selection criteria (grade, previous experience of non-national traineeships and work placements also abroad, knowledge languages etc).
Students and graduates of the PSB School can send their curriculum, apply for open positions and be informed about placement events and training activities to support the development of employability and soft skills, organized by actors within the School or offered by operators external.
